Elkaduwa Plantations Limited (EPL) is a limited liability company incorporated on 23rd<\/sup> July 1993 under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982 as a Fully Government Owned Company and re-registered under the Companies Act No.7 of 2007. The Company has been established by vesting lands managed by the State Plantations Corporations in terms of the provisions of the Conversion of Corporations and Government Owned Businesses Undertakings into Public Companies Act No. 23 of 1987 under the State Privatization Policy. The Company operates as a single shareholder company being the Secretary to the Treasury of the Government of Sri Lanka as the Golden Shareholder. The registered office of the Company locates at No. 320, T.B Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10.<\/h5>\n
The notice in respect of formation of EPL was published in the Extra Ordinary Gazette Notification No. 776\/13 of July 1993 and to take over the 10 Estates located in Matale District comprising 4,068.89 Ha. of land owned and \/or managed by the SLSPC.<\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

  • Incorporation<\/strong> \u2013 (23rd July 1993) \u2013 Managing Agent M\/s Metropolitan Agencies (Pvt) Ltd.<\/h5><\/li>
  • Shifting of Operational office to Colombo<\/strong> \u2013 (August 1993) out of 8 Executives and 30 staff members consented to be transferred to Managing Agent\u2019s office in Colombo. Other remained in Matale Office, without performing any duties.<\/h5><\/li>
  • Introducing Group System for Tea Estates<\/strong> \u2013 1994<\/h5><\/li>
  • Bandarapola, Elkaduwa, Hunugala & Pitakanda Estates were consolidated as Pitakanda Group and Ratwatte & Selagama Estates were consolidated as Ratwatte Group.<\/h5><\/li>
  • Management was taken over by the SLSPC as Managing Agent on 19th January 1999.<\/h5><\/li>
  • In 2004 EPL Management was taken over by the Plantation Management Monitoring Division (PMMD) of the Ministry of Plantation Industries with Chief Executive Officer being appointed.<\/span><\/h5><\/li>
  • From January 2006, the Company is Managed by a Treasury appointed full time Chairman & Board of Directors<\/h5><\/li>
  • In 2006 EPL Leased out Bandarapola Tea Factory to a private Investor, M\/s Pride Tea Company (Pvt) Ltd, for a period of 30 years. Accordingly, a greater portion of green leaf in being supplied to this factory.\u00a0<\/h5><\/li>
  • In 2008 leased out the Ratwatte Estate Tea Factory to a private investor, M\/s APN Plantations limited, initially for a period of 10 years. The private investor through having attended to the repairs\/refurbishment of the factory yet to commence co-operations.<\/h5><\/li>
  • In 2018, the Bandarapola tea factory was taken back to EPL<\/h5><\/li>
  • In 2020 commenced a replanting program of Tea, Rubber, Coconut and commercial forestry.<\/h5><\/li>
  • In 2020 the newly appointed Chairman and the Board of Directors have successfully turned around the EPL operation from a loss-making entity to a profitable venture.<\/h5><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
